Longmen Grottoes, Luoyang China

I've just returned from my trip from China last 2 week and I'm so busy organizing my photo and i can't wait to share with you all. Do you all like China History? I'm Malaysian and studying in English school ( I don't know chinese at all) but i like China History. Last 2 weeks, i was travelling to China visiting my bf's cousin who staying in Zhengzhou.

My first visits in China and it really impressive me with full of historical places. History of China can be found as early as the Shang Dynasty ( 1700–1046 BC ). There's need a lot of time to study about China history. It makes so big different between watching discovery channel and visiting the real places.

For this post, i would like to share about "LONGMEN GROTTOES (龙门石窟)". Dragon Gate Grottoes, commonly called the Longmen Grottoes, are a series of caves carved out of the mountainside along the Yi River that house tributes to Buddhism.

Chinese name: 龙门石窟 (Longmen Shiku).
Location: 12 km south of Luoyang City, Henan Province.
Ticket: CNY120 (including entrance fees to Longmen Grottoes, Bai Garden (Bai Juyi's tomb), Xiangshan Temple).
Opening time: - Spring to Autumn: 07:00-18:30; - Winter: 07:30-17:30;
(Travelers can have a night visit to Longmen from 18:30 to 22:00 between April and October 10. Sale of tickets stops at 21:00.)
Best time for visit: autumn.
Estimation time in there: 2 - 3 hours (Depends)

The creating of Longmen Grottoes started from around year 493 when Emperor Xiaowendi of Northern Wei Dynasty (368-534) moved the capital from Pingcheng (known as Datong today) to Luoyang.

Hailed as the No.1 among the most famous eight landscapes in ancient Luoyang, Longmen Mountain was recognized as an advantageous place in Chinese Fengshui, which made it the site for the grottoes. After a long intermittent project lasting over 400 years after Northern Wei, a spectacular grotto stretching for one kilometer from south to north emerged on the cliffs of the mountains by Yi River.

The alternative name of "Dragon's Gate Grottoes" derives from the resemblance of the two hills that check the flow of the Yi River to the typical "Chinese gate towers" that once marked the entrance to Luoyang from the south.

There are as many as 110,000 Buddhist stone statues within the 1,400 caves, ranging from an 1 inch (25 mm) to 57 feet (17 m) in height. The area also contains nearly 2,500 stelae and inscriptions, whence the name “Forest of Ancient Stelae", as well as over 60 Buddhist pagodas. On the West Hill cliffs there are more than 50 large and medium-sized caves cut in the Northern, Sui and Tang dynasties (316-907); the caves on the East Hill cliffs are exclusively from the Tang dynasty (618-907).

Situated in a scenic natural environment, the caves were dug from a 1 kilometre (0.62 mi) stretch of cliff running along both banks of the river.

Guyangdong, or Guyang Cave, or Old Sun Cave, is recorded as the oldest Longmen cave with carvings in the Northern Wei style. It is also the largest cave, located in the central part of the west hill. It was carved under the orders of Emperor Xiaowen. The earliest carving in this limestone cave has been now predated to 478 AD, which has been inferred as the time taken by Emperor Xiaowen to shift his capital from Datong to Luoyang have very well sculpted Buddhist statues in niches in this cave. Also found here are 600 inscriptions in fine calligraphy of the writings of the Northern Wei style. The cave has three very large images - the central image is of Sakyamuni Buddha with Bodhisattvas on either side. The features of the images are indicative of the Northern Wei style, typically of slim and emaciated figures. There are about 800 inscriptions in the walls and niches inside the cave, the largest such numbers in any cave in China.

Binyangzhongdong or the Middle Binyang Cave, is carved in the Datang style on the west hill, on the northern floor. It was built by Emperor Xuanwun to commemorate his father Xiaowen, and also his mother. It is said that 800,000 workers created it over the period from 500 to 523. In the main wall of this cave, five very large Buddhist statues are carved all in Northern Wei style The central statue is of Sakyamuni Buddha with four images of Bodhisattvas flanking it. Two side walls also have Buddha images flanked by Bodhisatvas. The Buddhas, arranged in three groups in the cave, are representative of Buddha of the past, the present, and the future. The canopy in the roof is designed as a lotus flower. There were two large bas-reliefs of two imperial processions, that included Emperor Xiaowen, Empress Dowager Wenzhao, and the emperor's late parents in worship. The relieves were stolen completely in the mid-1930.

Fengxian, or Feng Xian Si, or Li Zhi cave is the Ancestor Worshipping Cave, which is the largest of all caves carved on the west hill built between 672 and 676 for Empress Wu Zetian. The carvings are claimed to be the ultimate in architectural perfection of the Tang dynasty. The shrine inside the cave measures 39m x35m. It has the largest Buddha statue at the Longmen Grottoes. Of the nine huge carved statues, the highly impressive image of Vairocana Buddha is sculpted on the back wall of the Fengxian. The image is 17.14m high and has 2m long ears. An inscription at the base of this figure gives 676 as the year of carving. Bodhisattva on the left of the main image of Buddha is decorated with a crown and pearls. Also shown is a divine person trampling an evil spirit. The main image of Vairocana's features are plumpish and of peaceful and natural expression. Each of the other large statues are carved with expressions matching their representative roles. These were carved at the orders of Empress Wu Zetian, and are considered uniquely representative of the Tang dynasty's "vigorous, elegant and realistic style." The huge Virochana statue is considered as "the quintessence of Buddhist sculpture in China."

The Vairochana statue also provides information at its base of the names of the artisans who worked here, the donor's name namely the Emperor Gaozong, and also honors Wu Zetian. It is said that Wu Zetian donated "twenty-thousand strings of her rouge and powder money" to complete this edifice. Hence, it is conjectured that the Vairocana Buddha was carved to resemble the Empress herself and termed as a "Chinese Mona Lisa, Venus or as the Mother of China". All the images here, which remain undamaged, project a detail of character and animation. Statues of Kasyapa and Ananda, the two principal disciples of Vairochana and two Bodhisattvas with crowns flank the main statue, apart from numerous images of "lokapalas (guardians or heavenly kings), dvarapalas (temple guards), flying divas and numerous other figures.

Is so sad, most of the smaller Buddhist statuary, many inscriptions and murals were stolen by Western visitors in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. It is estimated that some 800 of the finest pieces were carried off in the 1930s alone. There are still some very impressive sculptures remaining but today visitor will shudder at the hundreds of beheaded Buddha sculptures one passes during a visit.

龙门石窟 (Longmen Shiku)

How to get there: It takes about 40 minutes from the railway station to Longmen by bus No.81. The cost by taxi is about CNY35.

Travel tip: The Luoyang Peony Festival is held from April to early May every year, which is a good time for those interested in both Longmen Grottoes and peony to visit Luoyang.

2) Get a tour guide to bring you inside, they explain briefly about the history of Longmen Shiku.

Daorae Korean BBQ, USJ Taipan

Korean food is one my best favourite food. I like every time when i order, they will serve 7 different small dishes and it's free. So last few days, i drag my friend to have Korean Food with me. I like Korean Food so much but less think about it because the price is not cheap though. The first in my thought is Daorae as i saw a lot of post about this restaurant. Some of my friend told me not to go Daorae as the service is not good but here one of my friends ask me to visit at USJ, Taipan. She told me the food and the service quite good so i decide to go for this branch.

This shop is just same row with Citibank and opposite is UOB bank. Is located 1st floor and is very easy to find. When i enter to this restaurant, i saw the environment is very nice, clean and place is spacious. I'll bet weekend should be lot of people. We choose to sit on the floor more flexible. Staff bringing the menu for us with smile. Not local people but they know quite a lot of korean words and teach us some.

Once you get sited, they will served you a jug of korean tea and you can slowly choose your meal. Daorae have few branches, you can view at their facebook page.

Since it just 2 of us only, we can't order much as we can't finish. We just 2 type of food that we want to try the most. First they served us this Seaweed soup (Miyeok guk).

Korean cuisine uses a wide variety of vegetables, which are often served uncooked, either in salads or pickles.

Korean food stands out from other cuisines with the many side dishes (banchan) that are served during meals. The number of side dishes can range anywhere from 2 to 12, but everyday meals feature at least a few. So when you eat at a Korean restaurant, your various side dishes will come to you before your meal in small bowls, and can be anything from vegetables to meat to seafood prepared in any number of ways.

Those small dishes, you can ask for refill. Some different korean restaurant has it's own way. Some of the restaurant did not served banchan if you not ordering bbq meat. Some will served even you did not order bbq meat. So, if you would like to try just ask the boss.

Pork Modum - RM75

Price range for BBQ meat, menu is from RM 28 to RM120++. Is depend what type of meat that you choose.  We choose Pork Modum which include 4 types of different pork meat (pork special, mok-sat, sam-kub-syal, gal-bi). There's a staff to help us to grill but of course you can choose to grill yourself. We choose to let the staff to help us to grill as they are experienced and they grill the meat till tender & juicy.

Meat is cut into bite-sized pieces so there is no need for a knife and easy to eat too. It served with the ssamjang sauce (fermented bean paste & pepper) and wrapped in fresh lettuce and garlic.

Kimchi-Jeongol - RM55 (S)

This is 2nd main thing that i want to taste. Is Kimchi hot pot with noodle. It have rice cake, kimchi, slices of pork, onion and taufu. The soup not really spicy and a bit tasteless (my opinion). This hot pot can fill for 4 person for small eaters. We can't finish at all. Eat Korean Cuisine with more people as you can try more different dishes. They still have more dishes that i would like to try but too bad i'm too full.

If you guys can recommend me any korean food which is nice, please share with me by comment here. I'm a food lover would try any food which is nice.

Thistle Hotel, Port Dickson

Last Saturday is my company annual dinner and organized at Thistle Hotel. This is a 5 Star hotel and here i would like to share some information about this hotel because many people asked me after i post some photo in Facebook.

Overall this is family hotel. Why i said so? This is a hotel room but not private villa. I just check the rate for a night is about RM530 but since is our company events and we take a lot of room, average a night also need RM400++.

I'm not very sure about the service in hotel as my company is the one who dealing with them and i'm enjoying every facilities in hotel.

There were few company was doing function and as well weekend, so there's a lot of people.

As we entering to the hotel, we straight look for the beach side. Before we saw the beach, here we pass by super large pool. There is divided to 3 different pool so no matter adults or kids are suitable to play. At the centre, there a mini bar where you can enjoy your drinks while swimming.

After pass by the swimming pool, here we saw the beach. Very nice scenery. Everyday we have to face busy city with a lot's of car, building and people. Is totally a relaxation when we seeing beach.

This is a small pub nearby the beach. It's open about 4 something if not mistaken. Where you can enjoy your drinks and looking at the sea. This where our party start that night.

This is another pool that facing the sea and it just next to the pub. If you do not wish to swim by the beach, you can swim at here.

There's only 2 activities that provided by this hotel. Banana Boat and Jet Ski can be play here. There is no charges if you want to play. Every facilities in the hotel is free. Luckily we reach early that day and we can enjoy the water sports freely. As is Saturday and lots people queuing up  to play.

We staying twin bedroom. The room is spacious and clean and provided day bed as well. Room can sleep for 4 people. Our room is facing the pool so i quite noisy at the afternoon but we normally close the balcony door to avoid the sounds. There's just 1 bad things of this hotel room which is the sound proof is bad. We can heard walking footstep at above and outside. Kids are running around and yelling at outside also can be heard.

Everyday 2 bottles of drinking water is provided. Tea & coffee is also provided and you can drink it without charges. Small fridge and big TV provided.

Bathroom is spacious and provided bathroom amenities. There's a bath tub at my room but didn't have time to enjoy. Not every room have bathtub so when do booking have to see clearly the room features.

The pool & the place is booked by us for private function. We enjoying our night drinking and being throw to the pool. The DJ's is playing a very nice song and everybody is dancing around here. What a night.

I will return to this hotel again to enjoy their facilities and service. I didn't manage to contact with the staff and didn't experience properly. I would like to know more about this hotel whether is worth to stay or not as the price is almost the same with Avillion. If any of you have comment about this hotel, please drop me a message. :)

I found out there is 2 address in Google map, the estimation of the location is below. I got lost when i search for the first address that provided in Google Map. The location is quite far to Port Dickson town but is very near to Melaka way.

Bougainvillea City Cafe, Ipoh

I never thought that someone will use "Bougainvillea" as a cafe name. This name reminds me of during secondary school, is our class name. The chef told me that he named it after Ipoh. I think that certain things is represent something. I guess Bougainvillea is just represent Ipoh. I will ask in details when i back again.
This cafe is just located at Ipoh town and just opposite of Bricks & Barrels. If you are not from Ipoh, refer the address below.

This cafe is set-up by a chef named Mac and few partners in Ipoh. Mac went to U.S for almost 13 years and he learn his cooking skills at there. Now, he back to his mother lands and open up his favourite cafe. Is so amazing that all decorations, painting, food and furniture are done by the chefs and partners themselves. Simple decorations just turned out to be a nostalgic charm.

Caffe Latte (RM6.90)

Cappucino (RM7.90)

The old traditional coffee cup that no where to be found, you can found  it in this cafe. The speciality of the coffee is that using Ipoh Famous White Coffee to brew out. Sugar for coffee is using cane brown sugar. Is healthy and not too sweet.

Old Style Sarsaparilla (RM 9.90)

This is highly recommend soda by me. This soda taste exactly like "SARSI" by F&N. The different between Old Style and F&N, Old Style taste not too sweet and less gas but still can taste my favourite Sarsi.

Bacon & Scramble Eggs Wrap (RM15.90)

Fill with lettuce, bacon, scramble eggs, cheddar cheese, cube potato and little sauce is totally fill your stomach.

Ravioli Pasta

This is not mushroom soup but Ravioli Pasta with cream sauce. Last week i went and they recommend this pasta as this is handmade by the chef's. So far I've never try any cafe served this kind of pasta. Ravioli are a traditional type of Italian filled pasta. They are composed of a filling (meat) sealed between two layers of thin egg pasta dough and are served either in cream or with a red sauce. All pasta or spaghetti (noodles) handmade by the chef's.

Strawberry Chocolate Chip Crepe.

Strawberry Chocolate Chip Crepe is fresh made that day and is recommended by the chef's. So, we order decide to order and try it. I like the cake so much as not too sweet. We've been told that all the food & cakes are based with neutral taste. Not too sweet, not too salty and most important is no MSG!!!.

Is definitely healthy food and i like this cafe. I like the effort & passion of the chef's trying to recommend us every of the food in details and every of his waiter are well trained in serving foods. As i told before, the main reason i will visits again is service. Service is very important in every industry (not only food) in order to come back again.

Kampai BBQ Restaurant & Bar, Sri Petaling

Recently my friend told me about this restaurant and i find it interesting and would like to try it. It's barbecue restaurant.

Kanpai Japanese Restaurant & Bar is situated at Sri Petaling and recently just open their newly branch at Taman Connaught. This restaurant called "Japanese BBQ but not Japanese Restaurant". The concept is you can order the raw meat and barbeque yourself. Their menu is about ramen, bento set and bbq. There is no sushi that is why i said is not japanese restaurant.

Yesterday was my 2nd time visit this restaurant. Bringing my friend to try the food. Overall the food was good but the service is bad (for me). First time visiting is acceptable but yesterday was not good at all. They have in buffet package or set package. Buffet package got 2 choices which is RM 35++ and RM 45++ . The difference between both is RM45++ have shisamo, crab, smoked duck breast and expensive part of beef meat (if not mistaken). Yes !!!! eat all you can. If 1 person order for buffet, then the whole table must order the same thing.

I choose to eat for set since i can't eat too much but if think clearly, buffet is better than set. I order set for 2 people is include 5 selection of raw meat, vegetables and white rice. Add on for RM1 to get a green tea or soup or dessert. You can choose either one. At last we still order some ala carte, that is why i said buffet is more better. Besides BBQ, you can order their ramen and bento but i'll never try so can't explain is nice or not.

The 5 selections in their set is not enough for us, so we additional order pork and beef meet. Average ala carte for the meat is about RM12 - RM15. Is depend what part of the meat you ordering. RM13 for the portion of pork is quite lot (in kl). Estimate about 8 - 9 pcs. They have something like skewer too (satay stick).

As you refer to above picture, this is mini burger. You can select different meat that you would like to try. You can choose chicken, pork, smoked duck breast, beef and others. I choose pork, min order must be 2 and RM3.90 each. My friends like their chilies so much because is spicy.

Disappointed:
Overall food presentation and quality is average but i really don't like the service. I felt service is very important in order people to go back again not only food (to me). Yesterday is the 2nd time i visit this restaurants. We order the set together with the Green Tea, they suppose volunteer to refill the green tea for us but they do it only when we ask. For the first time customer, we do not know whether the green tea can be refill or not. They have open kitchen so customers can see them cooking but i think that is the platform for their own staff chatting. I have to call them twice or triple times only i can they take order.

We order the mini burger for 2nd time. The 1st they put along the chilies (refer photo above) but the 2nd time it just the burger without the chilies. I always felt the staff, no matter the chef or the waiter are work in simply way and not using the heart. What i mean hearts is they never look into every customer needs. I order ala-carte a plate of onion (cost RM2.00) and they didn't give us and charge us on the bill. They suppose to check every order all the time but they didn't do it. We found out the bill after we went home so we can't argue about the onion. Is really quite disappointed. I hope they can do better with their service.
